The Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda Receives New Equipment to Aid in Their Fight Against Crime

There has been an escalation of gun crimes in Antigua. Minister of National Security, Hon. Dr. Errol Cort, commended the police force for its ability to keep the recent rash of crimes under control. On July 6th 2010, he officially handed over new equipment to the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda. The equipment included bullet proof vests, shot guns, hand cuffs, batons, pepper spray, tasers, and first aid kits. Minister Cort stated that the equipment the police force received will only enhance the commendable job that the Royal Police Force has been doing.

The police force has in the past week, initiated major check points for vehicle ‘stops and searches’ in hopes of reducing the amount of illegal gun possessions. Commissioner of Police, Thomas Bennett, acknowledged that carnival is just around the corner and the police force is doing everything in its power to keep the citizens of Antigua safe before, during and after the carnival season.

Minister Cort sent forth a plea to the general public to pass along any information on these crimes to the police. Commissioner Bennett further went on to say that anyone who would like to give anonymous tips should feel free to use the ‘Crime Stoppers’ network.
